Moving to a new city for a job is exciting and a lot to organize. This checklist covers the practical side.

Housing
- Ask your employer whether accommodation is offered or whether they can suggest options
- Budget for a deposit and first month's rent
- Check the distance and travel time to your workplace
Budget for the first month
Your first pay may arrive two to four weeks after you start. Plan for food, transport and essentials until then.
Getting to work
Check public transit routes and schedules, especially for early or late shifts. In smaller communities, a car or shared ride may be needed.
Weather
Canadian winters can be cold. Plan for warm clothing and boots if you start between November and March.
Keep your documents organized
Keep copies of your job offer, contact details and important documents in one place, on paper and on your phone.
