Preparing for a video interview with a Canadian employer

Many first interviews happen on video. Simple preparation makes a strong impression.

Many first interviews now happen by video. The basics matter as much as your answers.

Check your setup

  • Test the link, camera and microphone the day before
  • Sit facing a window or lamp, with a plain background
  • Use a stable internet connection and charge your device

Check the time zone

Confirm the interview time in your own time zone. Join five minutes early.

Prepare your examples

Think of two or three short stories from past jobs: a busy day you handled well, a problem you solved, a time you helped a colleague. Employers in Canada often ask "Tell me about a time when…".

Ask questions

Prepare two questions about the role, such as the schedule, training or team. It shows interest.
